How to open an airless bottle?

There are usually two closures of airless pump bottles. One is the screw-thread type bottle, which can be opened by simply rotating the shoulder sleeve (pump head). This pump is tightly connected to the bottle body through threads, which can form an effective seal to prevent leakage; the other is the lock-type bottle, which cannot be opened once closed, and has a locking mechanism to prevent misoperation from causing product leakage or misuse by children. The closing method of the PA157 bottle airless pump belongs to the second type.

What are the characteristics of these two pump and how to use them?

The screw-thread pump is suitable for various bottle types. As long as the pump thread and the bottle mouth can match, it has a wide range of applications, relatively mature manufacturing technology, and low cost. 

Some threaded pumps can affect the capacity by using the gasket on their inner ring. The closed snap-on pump head is designed for products with high sealing requirements. Due to different container full capacity, dimensional tolerances, required formulation volume and formulation measurement units (g/ml), when 30ml serum and 30g lotion are filled in the same 30ml airless bottle, different sizes of space may be left inside.

Usually, we recommend that brands inform consumers that they need to press the airless pump 3-7 times to expel air when promoting products that use vacuum bottles. However, consumers may not be able to fully obtain this information. After pressing 2-3 times without success, they will directly unscrew the screw-threaded pump to check out.

Case Study

Take a primer brand we serve as an example. After receiving the product, the end consumer pressed it several times and thought that there might be no material in the bottle, so they opened the pump. But this is a wrong step. On the one hand, air will be refilled into the bottle after unscrewing it, and it still needs to be repeated 3-7 times or even longer when pressing; on the other hand, the proportion of bacteria in the living environment and the GMPC workshop is different. Unscrewing the pump may cause some highly active skin care products to be contaminated or inactivated.

Which pump proposal should the brand adopt? 

Most of the time, both products are acceptable, but if your formula is highly active and you don’t want consumers to accidentally open the bottle and cause oxidation or other problems with the formula, or you don’t want children to be able to open it, then it is recommended to choose a vacuum bottle like PA157..
